This 1500-gallon tank, measuring 10x5x4 feet, is a highly successful SPS-dominant reef, running for three and a half years. It features 25 Radion lights, three Hydro Whistler powerheads, a CoralVue XP 8000 skimmer, and a CoralVue calcium reactor. Weekly 5-10% water changes are performed, and hundreds of frags are taken weekly. Notable fish include Casper (12+ years old) and Bubbles the Mata Tang.

Protocols & Practices

  • The tank has been set up for three and a half years.
  • Corals are grown on the floor and back glass, including Favites and Acropora.
  • Ricordea of various colors are reproducing throughout the tank.
  • 25 Radion lights are run at 100% for 2-3 hours.
  • Three medium-sized Hydro Whistler powerheads provide plenty of flow.
  • A large UV sterilizer is used.
  • A CoralVue calcium reactor is used for dosing.
  • Weekly 5-10% water changes are performed.
  • 300-400 Acropora and other coral frags are taken weekly.
